Driving yourself
The road is paved all the way. Route 1 leaves Reykjavik eastwards and climbs over the Hellisheiði heath, then drops to Hveragerði; at the edge of Selfoss, Road 35 (Biskupstungnabraut) turns north, and the Kerið car park is beside it, before you reach Geysir. Parking is free; entry is 700 ISK a person at the entrance, card or cash. The entrance fee has the details.
In winter, check the road before you leave: the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration posts conditions and closures on umferdin.is and on its traffic line, 1777. From Kerið, Geysir is 46.8 km further up Road 35 and Gullfoss beyond it, so the crater fits easily into a Golden Circle loop by car. For a longer drive east along the south coast, jokulsarlontour.com sets out the road from Reykjavik to the glacier lagoon.

The tours from Reykjavik
All the Golden Circle tours that stop at Kerið pick up in Reykjavik, at hotels or the city’s numbered bus stops; BusTravel Iceland’s also meet at Bus Stop 12, Höfðatorg. The difference for the crater is when you reach it: early, as on the full day and the Friðheimar minibus, or last, as on the afternoon tour and several of the smaller-group days.
