Kerid Crater Entrance Fee

The Kerid Crater entrance fee is 700 ISK a person (650 ISK for groups of 10+), card or cash; parking is free. Tours that include it, and the hours.

Updated November 2026

Entry to Kerið costs 700 ISK a person, paid by card or cash at the entrance by the car park; groups of 10 or more pay 650 ISK each (kerid.is, November 2026). Parking is free. Many Golden Circle tours include the fee: Arctic Adventures’ Reykjavik: Small-Group Golden Circle & Kerið Full-Day Tour does, with about 45 minutes at the crater, from $118 a person (checked November 2026).

Kerið’s own pages, in English and in Icelandic, give the same figures. Tour operators and other groups can pay ahead by bank transfer and show the receipt at the entrance to skip the queue. The fee is for walking the crater: the rim path and the stairs and path down to the lake. Arctic Adventures’ page says children under 12 enter free; Kerið’s site gives no child rate.

You can also buy entry for a set date in advance: *Kerið Volcanic Crater Admission Ticket*, sold by Arctic Adventures, is from $5 (checked November 2026), with free cancellation up to 24 hours before. It costs about the same as the gate (US$5.49 is about 670 ISK at the ECB reference rate of 2 November 2026) and fixes a date; it is there if you want the visit paid before you leave.

Who owns Kerið

Kerið is on private land. Kerið’s own site names Kerfélagið ehf. as the owner and gives 700 ISK (November 2026). Kerfélagið owned the crater from 2008 and began charging visitors in 2013, among the first sites in Iceland to do so; Arctic Adventures, a Reykjavik tour company, bought Kerið in 2023 (Vísir, August 2024). Arctic Adventures calls itself the owner on its own pages, where it gives 600 ISK. Tours from other companies stop there as before.

Opening hours

Kerið’s own site gives no clock hours: the crater is open in daylight. Arctic Adventures’ own guide to Kerið gives usual hours of 8:00 to 21:00 in summer and 10:00 to 17:00 in winter, but the same page gives 600 ISK where Kerið’s site gives 700, so treat those hours as a guide and plan to arrive in daylight. On 1 November 2026 the Icelandic Met Office’s sun table for Reykjavik had sunrise at 09:10 and sunset at 17:10. Kerið in winter has more on the short days.

The Golden Circle tours that stop at Kerið handle the fee in one of two ways: it is in the price, or the inclusions do not name it.
