Golden Circle Tours with Kerid Crater

Golden Circle tours from Reykjavik that stop at Kerid Crater: the order of stops, the minutes at the crater, the fee, and prices (November 2026).

Updated November 2026

Most Golden Circle tours from Reykjavik stop at Kerið, but not for the same time and not in the same order. The best-known is BusTravel Iceland’s Reykjavik: Golden Circle Full-Day Tour with Kerid Crater: about 7 hours, Kerið second after a break in Hveragerði, for about 20 minutes, and only on departures before 12:00. It is from $88 a person (checked November 2026). Tours that give about 45 minutes at the crater cost more.

The loop and the order of stops

Map of southwest Iceland: the Golden Circle loop by road from Reykjavik City Hall to Þingvellir (Hakið) 47.6 km, Geysir, Gullfoss, Kerið crater 68.7 km from City Hall, and Selfoss 15.1 km from Kerið
The Golden Circle by road: Reykjavik City Hall, Þingvellir (Hakið, 47.6 km), Geysir (60.6 km on), Gullfoss (9.9 km on), Kerið (68.7 km back to City Hall) and Selfoss (15.1 km from Kerið); 241 km in all.

The Golden Circle is three stops: Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area with Strokkur, and the Gullfoss waterfall. Kerið is the usual fourth, because it lies on Road 35 between Selfoss and Geysir. Driven as a loop from Reykjavik City Hall through Þingvellir’s Hakið viewpoint, Geysir, Gullfoss and Kerið, it is 241 km by road. Tours go one of two ways round: Kerið early, on the way out through Hveragerði, or Kerið last, on the way back from Gullfoss.

Times at each stop are from each listing’s itinerary; “a visit” or “a stop” means the listing does not give the minutes. BusTravel Iceland’s full day (first row) skips Kerið on departures at 12:00 or later.

Which one, for whom

The cheapest full day, BusTravel Iceland’s, is the best value if a look into the crater is enough: 20 minutes covers the rim by the car park and a photograph of the lake. If you want to walk round the rim and take the stairs down, you need the 45-minute stops of Arctic Adventures’ small group or EastWest’s day. If Kerið is the last stop, as on the afternoon tour and most of the small groups, the light matters in winter: on 1 November 2026 the Icelandic Met Office’s sun table for Reykjavik had sunset at 17:10.

Kerið with a lagoon

Two of the longer days add a geothermal lagoon after the crater, back in Reykjavik in the evening: Nicetravel’s day with about two hours at the Blue Lagoon, entry and a towel included, from $251, and its day with the Sky Lagoon, from $234 (checked November 2026). Is Kerið worth it weighs these longer days.
